Orr Shalom's 30th Anniversary Event

On May 10th, 2010, Orr Shalom marked its thirtieth anniversary with a sold-out gala fundraising event at the Cameri Theater in Tel Aviv.

The event opened with a celebratory reception attended by contributors and supporters of Orr Shalom, including some of the founders. After the reception, Israeli television presenter Miki Haimovich presided over a ceremony to mark the anniversary. Anat Dunowicz (Orr Shalom Executive Director) and Oren Plotkin (Orr Shalom Chair) also spoke. Finally, Aliza Olmert (Orr Shalom President), who arrived at the event accompanied by her husband, former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, also spoke.

The most moving moment of the evening came when Ofra and Ehud Manzur, the house-parents of one of Orr Shalom's homes in Beer-Sheva, came up to the stage accompanied by all the eleven children of the home and their three biological children. Each member of the family presented themselves, and enthralled the audience with tales from their day-to-day lives. There wasn't a dry eye in the house.

Next to the stage was Tzvika, an Orr Shalom graduate, who also participated in the popular Israeli television show, Born to Dance. He gave a short talk explaining how Orr Shalom had changed his life.

The evening marked the launch of the "Orr Shalom – Born Again" campaign, the symbol of which is a white rubber bracelet. These can be purchased at major Israeli stores in exchange for a small donation. The bracelet is intended to remind people of the bracelets babies wear when they are born, as well as emphasizing that Orr Shalom's purpose is to offer children another chance in life.

The event ended with a performance of the successful comedy, A Servant of Two Masters, which was performed by actors from the Cameri and directed by Moni Moshanov.

Orr Shalom continues with its intensive efforts to fulfil its vision and to rebuild the lives of as many children as possible.
