60 Orr Shalom children from the Jerusalem and Modiin areas, their foster families and social workers enjoyed a fun-packed afternoon at Hava BeKfar Horse-Riding Ranch in Kfar Rut. The children, most of whom are in the special foster therapy program for children with a psychiatric profile, had a fantastic time riding and grooming the horses, petting the rabbits, jumping on bouncy castles, making their own pitta breads, preparing and drinking herbal teas and eating candy floss.
The children's foster parents, who were extremely happy to see their children occupied on a long August afternoon, were able to relax and chat with other foster parents and with the social workers who came to join the families.
In addition, eight 8th-graders from the Yachad Modiin School, who have volunteered all year with Orr Shalom's foster therapy children, came to help out and run the different stations together with volunteers from the ranch.
Established in 2006, Hava BeKfar specializes in therapeutic horse-back riding for children and adults with special needs, and also offers English-style riding (jumping and dressage), Western-style riding and riding for pleasure down the beautiful trails in the area.
The ranch is managed by Uri Shaham who decided, together with his wife, Tom to donate the activities to Orr Shalom after Tom participated on a visit to Orr Shalom's foster therapy center and an Orr Shalom therapeutic group home in Mevasseret Zion. Uri, Tom and the staff of the ranch welcomed Orr Shalom with open arms and were thrilled that the children and their families enjoyed themselves so much.
On the way home, with three happy and tired children, one of the foster parents said: "It was an amazing afternoon for the children and for us. We are so grateful to Uri, Tom and the staff of Hava BeKfar for giving this wonderful afternoon to our children".
