Israeli Friends of Orr Shalom

The Israeli Friends of Orr Shalom, chaired by Mr Coby Lapidot, was founded last year following a summer fundraiser, which included a performance by the Israeli rock group Machina, and has already made a significant contribution: support for electricity costs in the home, school-bags for the new year, kitchen utensils and much more. The group organize special events and volunteer activities (workshops, support for the overnight camps, enrichment activities, accompanying children to performances) in order to raise money and goods-in-kind for Orr Shalom.

Lily (name has been changed) was taken into an Orr Shalom home following her parents difficult divorce, when it became clear that her mother , who suffered from physical and emotional difficulties, was unable to take care of her. When she arrived at the Orr Shalom home, Lily was a social outcast. After a period of intense and continuous therapy she began to form healthy social connections. She no longer feels rejected and is learning to stand up for her views at the family group home. Today, she is receiving great help from the therapy and works hard on controlling her feelings. In order that Lily will feel equal to the other children her age, and in order to empower her, the team at the home decided she should go on the school trip to Poland along with the other children her age. However, it was difficult to find money for this, as these trips are not funded by the Ministry of Welfare.

With the help of the Israeli Friends of Orr Shalom we are able to provide for the wide needs of Lily and others like her.

The Israeli Friends of Orr Shalom give a meaningful response: they are true partners to the children, and the Orr Shalom staff are not alone.
