Orr Shalom`s 26th Anniversary Kick-off Event
Celebrating 25 years of Loving Care
On Saturday evening, May 21st, 2005, over 200 people attended Orr Shalom`s first event in its 25th year celebrations at the David Citadel Hotel in Jerusalem. Following a pre-event press conference, a cocktail reception was held on the balcony overlooking the ancient walls of the Old City of Jerusalem. Amongst the guests were Ministers, members of Knesset, partners and friends from Israel and all over the world.
This marvelous event was initiated and hosted by one of Orr Shalom`s wonderful friends and longtime supporters. She came with an Austrian delegation that included the Honorable Franz Morak, the Austrian State Secretary for Arts and Media, Dr. Christian Meyer, Director of the Arnold-Schonberg Center in Vienna, and Ioan Holender, Director of the Vienna State Opera. We were treated to a superb performance by guest Soprano Ricarda Merbeth of the Viennese State Opera.
Other distinguished guests included, The Honorable Ehud Olmert, Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade, Dr. Kurt Hengel, Austria`s Ambassador in Israel, and our guest of honor and President of Orr Shalom, Alisa Olmert.
The ceremony began with Orr Shalom`s new short film describing the lives of two of our graduates and was followed by Tal, one of our adolescent girls relating her emotiional life`s story. Mr. Olmert`s captivated the audience with his words of praise and tribute to Alisa for all she has done and continues to do for the cause of Israeli children at risk. Michal, another of recent graduate and Linda Bracha, Orr Shalom`s Chairperson, presented a gift to Mr Olmert. There was an exhibition of Michal`s paintings in the foyer, all proceeds of the sale of her paintings benefit Orr Shalom`s Graduates Program. Click here to see Michal`s paintings.
After Aliza`s thanks and words of vision, she was presented a painting created by the children of Orr Shalom by Haim Feingold, Orr Shalom`s Executive Director.
The success of the evening was measured in terms of the overwhelming response from the attendees, their new awareness of who we are, widespread media coverage, pledges of support and contributions.

The JAFI National Young Leadership arrived at Orr Shalom for volunteer activities, hailing from all across the USA. In one day, the group fixed up several Orr Shalom Family-Modeled Homes. The volunteers became part of a home for the day and formed bonds with the children. We have no doubt that they will become `Good-will ambassadors` for Orr Shalom upon their return to their home towns.
