Orr Shalom is a leading organization in the field of out-of-home foster care placement, and operates using three major frameworks that provide homes to more than 1,000 children, infants and adolescents. The proper framework is matched to each child in our care, according to age and therapeutic profile.
Our award-winning Therapeutic Foster program has 110 families who care for around 181 children from all over Israel, who have been removed from their homes by the Social Welfare Services after suffering abuse so severe that it resulted in mental and physical deficiencies. Each child in this program has a psychiatric profile. Orr Shalom's professional staff closely supervises the children and their foster parents, and each child has a personalized therapeutic program.
Orr Shalom operates eight Emergency Foster Homes across Israel, each equipped to care for up to 5 newborns, infants and/or toddlers who must be taken in immediately. All of the babies in our Emergency Foster Homes have been removed from their parents by court order, and in an emergency situation. The Emergency Foster Homes are available at any given time, and ready to receive children 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, without warning.
Our Foster Central program cares for 850 children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse, neglect or abandonment, identifying and arranging for the proper foster family to take them in. These children, from birth to 18 years of age, grow up in their foster homes having been given a corrective family experience—experiencing the love and care that is the right of every child. Children of all faiths and nationalities are each placed in a family suitable for them, in keeping with their religious and ethnic background and education.
