Becoming a Family Group Home Parent

Orr Shalom pioneered the establishment of Family Therapeutic Group Homes for children suffering from severe abuse and/or neglect. Today, Orr Shalom operates 20 of these homes, each of which cares for 7 to 11 children (ages 6-18). With a married couple serving as house parents, a psychologist, social worker, academic tutor and counselors on staff, the children are provided with a chance for a better future. The Group Homes are located in residential neighborhoods and are just like regular family homes. The children come and go from school and other activities, and spend time with friends from the local neighborhood. Our homes are located in Holon, Herzliya, Jerusalem, Mevasseret Tzion, Ashkelon, Be'er Sheva, and Eilat. comforting-child Here, the children learn that families can be happy, positive places where children are cherished and nurtured in a loving, secure environment. The house parents are central to this important work. While serving as house parents in an Orr Shalom home, one of the couple works as an Orr Shalom employee while the other is able to continue with their career. The house parents are responsible for the day-to-day running of the home, and they are supported by an extensive staff, including social workers, psychologists, private tutors, counselors, a cook and a cleaner.  The house parents receive a monthly salary and they have regular meetings with the social workers and psychologists, as well as Orr Shalom's regional directors. If you or someone you know are interested in becoming Orr Shalom house parents, please email omna@orr-shalom.co.il with your name and phone number or leave your details here (page in Hebrew) and we will be in touch with you as soon as possible.
